Jazzens Historier/Tales behind jazz: Jens Fisker Trio

(English bellow)

The Tales behind Jazz is a unique meeting between artists and their audience. In this concert series, artists share their musical universe through stories about music that shaped their personal, musical and artist development.

Each artist chooses one album from our collection which is played before and after the concert. In the break, we'll hear the artist say few words about the album and it's personal meaning for the artist. After the concert, we'll have a space for conversation about the album and artists own work.

A seasoned jazz guitarist Jens Fisker has a rich sound and creative voice that carries his infectious love of the jazz tradition. His most recent album Paysage is a first for his long standing trio and Jens’ work has been recognised by many Danish jazz awards such as the Jazz Clash Prize from the 2015 Jazz Festival of Sæby and regional Jazz Musician of the Year of 2012. Living on the North Sea Jens’ environment has a meaningful impact on the output of his compositions and musical energy.

Atmospheric compositions and sublime interaction are some of the keywords in Jens Fisker Trio. The band gives the audience an experience beyond the usual. Their unique sound draws clear strings to bebop, but it's Nordic reverberation from Jens Fisker's Northern Danish origins, are very clear in the music. The compositions are characterized by a certain melancholy, but with the edge and roughness that Jens Fisker brings from his 2 years stay in Berlin. The combination of the loyal bass player Mariusz Prasniewski and complementing drummer Daniel Sommer, sets a perfect stage for a solid trio with playfull expression.

"Jens Fisker uses the trio as an asset, an living organ that breathes the music. It’s extremely comfortable and responsive jazz from three musicians who, in the subdued ballad style, never decides to become boring or predictable. They always have something to tell. Passage is a solid jazz album that deserves to be heard. The melodies and improvisations floats pleasantly towards the listener.”
