"A new pan-Nordic collaboration."
Dorthe Højland Group proudly presents ‘Nordic Stories’, a multi-faceted concert cavalcade featuring the sounds of fresh Nordic jazz and, as the visual backdrop, fantastic Icelandic landscape photos.
‘Nordic Stories’ is a co-composing project combining the talents of Danish saxophonist Dorthe Højland and Swedish photographer Fredrik Holm. In this concert venture, Holm’s jaw-dropping nature photography from Iceland has inspired the quartet’s compositions, and the same photographs will contribute visual ambience in a series of concerts showcasing precisely these compositions.
With the leader’s velvety timbre on the saxophone as its fulcrum, Dorthe Højland Group plays with organic, cinematic verve, proffering a profoundly thoughtful soundspace. Dorthe Højland Group nurtures open, improvised jazz stylings with an extra-sensitive sound and attention to dynamics to boot, each player making a unique contribution to the quartet’s collective expression.

"Expect the unexpected."
With my ‘Nordic Stories’ project, I want to invite you to share a unique concert experience with us. The group’s authentic simplicity will grant you the time and tranquility for all the sensory impressions that are part of such a concert to soak in: the photos and their portrayal of the power of nature, and the interplay between this power and our spirited music.
