Dick Griffin and Marc Levin were good friends and co-musicians in New York City in the late sixties. Despite his many worldwide commitments to Sun Ra, Michael Jackson, James Brown, Count Basie, “The Wiz” and so many more, whenever possible Dick would join with Marc in various ensemble projects as well as inspiring conversations, sharing contacts, perspectives, experiences, and continuing friendship.
Around 2021 Dick found Marc on Facebook and plans were begun for him to visit Denmark for a concert tour in Denmark, where Dick would also be available for individual and group master classes and lectures about the history of the music and his personal involvement in the American civil rights movement of the sixties, with such notables as James Meredith, Medgar Evers, Miller Green, and others.
The Corona epidemic delayed the visits then, though now, after recent tours in Senegal, Ghana, Cuba, and USA, Dick has arranged for time in March for this and other concerts hopefully following up with more visits to CDJ in 2024.
The music will be a combination of compositions by Dick and Marc, perhaps a standard or two and a few surprices.
