JAZZCENTRET PRÆSENTERER:
Genhør med fantastisk schweizisk guitarist fra GuitarRama i januar 2025
The Zurich-based guitarist and composer Mareille Merck (*1996) is bringing her solo album “Kaleidoskop” to the stage with her current tour. It is an album that has matured over a long period of time and represents a carefully compiled cross-section of several years of work on this special program.
Merck, who has already shared the stage with well-known stars such as John McLaughlin, was nominated for the ZKB Jazz Prize and performed at numerous festivals including the Montreux Jazz Festival, Langnau Jazz Nights and Cully Jazz, writes the following about her latest release:
“I had a kaleidoscope as a child. It looked like a small telescope. You could look through the peephole and with every turn you saw a new image full of colors and geometric patterns. That's how I feel about improvising and composing on the guitar. There are clear lines and shapes, but even small changes, a small “twist” so to speak, opens up numerous new sounds, harmonic paths, changeable melodies.”
Experiencing her solo performance live is an event. The intimate setting allows for an intense experience of the most diverse musical and guitaristic nuances. Particularly exciting: Merck takes “solo playing” literally and manages almost entirely without a loop station. The guitarist knows how to impress with her independent sound, technical finesse and innovative approach to the instrument. Her playing is characterized by her work with harmonics, open strings and fingerstyle techniques, which she skillfully combines with typical jazz elements.
The audience can look forward to an unforgettable concert evening with an independent and exciting young artist.
